Smart & Final Recalls Chef’s Review® Nonfat Dry Milk Because of Possible Health Risk

Smart & Final Stores of Commerce, California is recalling 5 pound Chef’s Review Nonfat Dry Milk because it may be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. 

The affected product was distributed through Smart & Final retail stores in California and Nevada.

The product is packed in a brown 5-pound bag with the brand name “Chef’s Review”. Recalled lots can be identified by a sticker located on the bottom right-hand side of the back panel containing the Use By Date 12-14-2005 and the lot code 425801 or the Use By Date 12-21-2005 and the lot code 426501.

Smart & Final stands behind all of its private label products and follows the most stringent quality assurance practices. Consistent with Smart & Final’s guarantee, consumers who have purchased this product are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Alta-Dena Dairy Announces Allergy Alert on Undeclared Eggs in Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream

Alta-Dena Certified Dairy Incorporated announced today that it is voluntarily recalling mislabeled quart containers of Baskin-Robbins brand ice cream because they contain undeclared eggs. The ice cream is packaged in a 2-piece quart container with a lid that identifies the product as “Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream” and a cup that identifies the product as “OREO ® Cookies ‘n Cream Ice Cream.” The ice cream actually inside the container is “Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream” and contains eggs that are not listed as an ingredient on the label of the cup portion of the container. No other products are involved in this voluntary recall.

Approximately 15,000 units of the recalled ice cream quart cup containers may have been sold between September 9 th to the 29 th to consumers at Baskin-Robbins retail stores in Arizona , Alaska , California , Nevada and Utah . The recall was initiated after the company discovered some Baskin-Robbins ice cream quart cup containers were mispackaged with “Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream” lids on “OREO ® Cookies ‘n Cream Ice Cream” cups.

Zambales Bakery of San Diego, CA is recalling an unknown quantity of Atchara (Pickled Papaya) and Ampalaya Atchara, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which can cause life-threatening illness or death. Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.

Amy's Kitchen Voluntarily Recalls Mislabeled Black Bean Enchilada Whole Meal Packages; Several Hundred May Contain Cheese Enchilada Whole Meal (Undeclared Cheese)

Amy's Kitchen announced it is voluntarily recalling, from distribution in the Eastern time zone and certain states in the Midwest, a small amount of Whole Meal Enchilada with Spanish Rice and Beans due to possible mislabeling. These whole meals bear the lot # F174C. Some retail packages may actually contain Cheese Enchilada Whole Meals (undeclared cheese), which are wholesome and safe, but can cause allergic reactions if consumed by any individuals allergic to milk. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to dairy products run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product. Consumers without milk allergies can consume the product and rest assured that the meal meets Amy's Kitchen high standards of quality.

The 10 ounce frozen product comes in a retail package labeled Whole Meal Enchilada with Spanish Rice and Beans (UPC 42272 00051), with lot number F174C embossed on a side panel. The packages were packed in June of 2004. Distribution was to two Amy's East Coast distribution centers, which in turn distributed the product to retailers. It is estimated that fewer than 350 meals (retail packages) of the 24,444 produced on that day may actually contain mislabeled product. To be cautious, Amy's is withdrawing 4,800 meals of the product from all states in the Eastern time zone in addition to Alabama, Arkansas, Minnesota, Illinois, Missouri and Kansas .

Spring House Creamery Recalls Creamline Chocolate Milk

Spring House Creamery announced today that their customers should return any Creamline Chocolate Cow milk carrying a “sell-by” date of 10/20. This product comes in quart and ½-gallon sized plastic containers. Please return this product to the store where it was purchased for a full refund. It should not be consumed.

The milk recalled was distributed to parts of the Bay/Thumb and mid Michigan areas as well as throughout Southeast Michigan.

This particularly dated product was labeled as pasteurized although the added cocoa and sugar did not go through the pasteurization process.

Nationwide Alert "Jelly Candy Pops Sour Zip Kids" Brand Halloween Candy May Contain Undeclared Food Allergen

A warning to consumers about the possibility that undeclared egg allergens may be present in "Jelly Candy Pops Sour Zip Kids" brand candy that has been marketed during this Halloween season. 

The product consists of individually wrapped lollipop candies in a cardboard display box. The label on the front of the display package reads: "JELLY CANDY POPS SOUR ZIP KIDS ***." The candy comes in the form of gelatin-based lollipops with frosting made to look like various Halloween figures (e.g., ghosts, monsters, etc.). The lollipops are individually cellophane wrapped with the ingredient statement and the name of the distributor, Morris National, Inc. The ingredients statement does not list eggs.

The candy is imported from China by Morris National, Inc. Azusa CA, and was distributed through "Tuesday Morning" stores throughout the country. Morris National Inc. is in the process of removing the product from the shelves.

Those who have purchased this candy should not consume it, but should instead return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Individuals who have egg allergies who may have consumed this candy should contact their doctors.
