Orchid Island Juice Company Voluntarily Recalls Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination

Orchid Island Juice Company of Fort Pierce, Florida, is voluntarily recalling fresh squeezed (only) orange juice with an expiration code date of 9/15/05 thru 9/22/05, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. 

Orchid Island Juice Company distributes fresh squeezed orange juice in the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, D.C., West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Consumers may have purchased or consumed the product through retail or foodservice establishments such as restaurants, hotels, resorts, or country clubs.

Orchid Island Juice Company's fresh squeezed (only) orange juice can be identified by the Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company label as well as Albritton Fruit, Nino Salvaggio, Balducci's, Gourmet Garage, Zabar's and Ultimate label. Orange juice is sold in gallon, half gallon, quart, pint, 12 oz, and 8 oz sizes. The containers are made of plastic and are clear in color so the orange juice is visible. This recall is for only fresh squeezed orange juice product with an expiration date code of 9/15/05 thru 9/22/05.

Consumers who have purchased fresh squeezed (only) orange juice distributed by Orchid Island Juice Company with the specific code dates should throw the juice away and return just the container to the store of purchase for a full refund.

• Sara Lee and Earth Grains fresh garlic bread. The packages are marked with use-by dates of Oct. 1 to 7. The bread closure tag will have the printed code "347 Oct 01 5" through "347 Oct 07 5."
• Alfaro's artisan breads and Sara Lee fresh Sourdough Round, Sourdough Loaf and 100% Whole Wheat Sourdough artisan breads. Also, Ralph's and Sara Lee breakfast breads. The packages are marked with use-by dates of Sept. 12 to 23. The bread bag closure tag will have the printed code "347 X 5 Sept 12" through "347 X 5 Sept 23."
• Bagels, dinner rolls, English muffins and pita bread shipped frozen to institutional foodservice customers. The affected products are shipped in cases with the Julian code 248 to 251 prefaced by the number 347. Affected cases will have the printed case codes of 347-248 through 347-251.

The retail products are being removed from store shelves, but some may remain in consumer possession. Consumers may return affected product to the store where it was purchased for a full refund. All retail and institutional foodservice customers are being notified, and arrangements for product retrieval will be made.

The recall applies only to products listed above, which are produced in Vernon, Calif. The recall does not apply to any other Sara Lee brand bread, including Sara Lee fresh Heart Healthy, Heart Healthy Plus, Delightful and Soft & Smooth breads.

Buffalo Meat & Provision, a Linden, N.J., firm, is voluntarily recalling approximately 890 pounds of sausage products that may be cross contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Products subject to recall include:

• One- and 10-pound packages of "SOMOS HISPANOS, CHORIZO JALAPENO BRAND, EL CASERO." Each package bears the sell by date "111505."
• 10-pound packages of "San Carlos Authentic Morcilla, Argentine Brand Blood Sausage."
• 10-pound packages of "MORCILLA 'COOKED BLOOD PUDDING'."
